[Asia Economy Beijing=Special Correspondent Park Sun-mi] Chinese President Xi Jinping held consecutive phone calls on the 23rd with the leaders of France, the United Kingdom, and Egypt, promising support and cooperation to overcome COVID-19 in China.
According to the Chinese Communist Party's official newspaper, People's Daily, on the 24th, President Xi said during a call with French President Emmanuel Macron the previous day, "We are closely monitoring the spread of COVID-19 in Europe and France," adding, "France is taking active and effective prevention measures, and I support the efforts of the French government and people in this regard."
He also stated, "China wishes to provide support and assistance to France," and "China should work with France to strengthen cooperation within the United Nations and the Group of Twenty (G20) framework and support the establishment of prevention systems in developing countries and other nations in need."
President Xi also expressed China's willingness to actively support efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19 during a call with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
He said, "China wants to offer support and assistance to the United Kingdom in responding to COVID-19. Countries must strengthen cooperation," adding, "Under Prime Minister Johnson's leadership, I believe the British people will surely overcome COVID-19. The virus knows no borders or racial distinctions, and all humanity must work together to defeat it."

President Xi also held a phone call with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, stating, "China wishes to share COVID-19 information, prevention, patient treatment, and vaccine research experience with Egypt and provide medical supplies," and "In accordance with the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind, China will strengthen international epidemic prevention cooperation with all countries and safeguard global public health security."
