Crime Committed While Delivery Driver Was Away... "I Don't Remember Because I Was Drunk"
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] A man in his 40s who stole a delivery truck while heavily intoxicated and drove it for 1 km was caught by police in front of the National Assembly.
Seoul Yeongdeungpo Police Station arrested Mr. A, a man in his 40s, on the spot around 1:40 a.m. on the 24th on charges of theft and violation of the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving), and is currently investigating him.
According to the police, Mr. A is accused of stealing a delivery truck that was parked with the key left in the ignition in an apartment complex in Singil-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, and driving it about 1 km to the National Assembly’s Gate 3 in Yeouido.
At the time of the crime, the delivery driver had left the site to deliver goods to the apartment complex.
Police officers on guard in front of Gate 3 of the National Assembly found it suspicious that the delivery truck had been parked for a long time late at night, approached it, and asked the reason for the visit.
Mr. A, smelling of alcohol and speaking incoherently, was immediately arrested on the spot as a report had been received from the delivery driver that the vehicle had been stolen. Mr. A’s blood alcohol concentration was 0.137%, which is at the level for license cancellation.
During the police investigation, Mr. A reportedly stated, "I don’t remember because I was drunk."
