Tada Internal Conflict Continues... Angry Drivers Visit VCNC to Protest
[Asia Economy Reporter Buaeri] Amid deepening internal conflicts following the suspension of the Tada service, Tada drivers facing threats to their livelihoods are planning to visit the operating company VCNC to protest.
According to the Tada Emergency Response Committee, the drivers will visit VCNC headquarters located in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, at 9:30 a.m. on the 25th to deliver demands including the withdrawal of the suspension of the Tada Basic service. Earlier, Tada announced that it would provide the Basic service only until the 10th of next month, suddenly putting drivers at risk of losing their jobs. To survive, the drivers launched the Emergency Response Committee, which has so far enrolled about 230 members.
The committee previously presented demands on the 19th targeting former Socar CEO Lee Jae-woong and current CEO Park Jae-wook, calling for the immediate withdrawal of the suspension of the Tada Basic service, recognition of all drivers’ worker status, and the establishment of livelihood measures for drivers through negotiations with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
Despite this, as Tada has remained silent, the drivers decided to visit the headquarters to protest. The committee stated, "Even though we have officially expressed our position, Tada has consistently responded with silence," and criticized, "Tada’s lack of communication is their consistent behavior." The committee also expressed anger over Tada’s past actions, mentioning, "Due to Tada’s unilateral reduction in vehicle dispatches, there have been sudden cases where drivers could not receive dispatches or were effectively dismissed," and added, "Changes in working conditions such as the abolition of paid breaks and reduction of peak-time additional allowances have also been implemented through unilateral notifications."
The committee is also considering filing a criminal complaint against former CEO Lee. Additionally, they are preparing to conduct a survey targeting drivers to gather evidence of Tada’s illegal activities.
