Jeonnam Provincial Council, Full Support for COVID-19 Affected Livelihoods
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Kim Taekyun, Chairman of the Economic, Tourism and Culture Committee of the Jeonnam Provincial Council, stated on the 23rd, "We will make every effort to support the livelihood of residents and overcome the livelihood crisis of small business owners and self-employed people due to the prolonged COVID-19 situation."
Chairman Kim Taekyun said, "The supplementary budget for this livelihood support will amount to about 183.5 billion KRW," adding, "In particular, emergency living expenses of 300,000 to 500,000 KRW per household will be provided to about 320,000 vulnerable households with median income below 100% (37% of the total 870,000 households), and to stimulate consumption, it will be paid through local love gift certificates or prepaid cards."
He continued, "Among the 135,000 small business owners in the province, about 85,000 with annual sales under 300 million KRW will receive about 25.5 billion KRW in support for public utility fees such as gas, electricity, and water, providing 100,000 KRW per month for three months."
He also emphasized, "We will promptly finalize the Jeonnam Province supplementary budget for livelihood support, including expanding the emergency management stabilization fund, which has been provided since the early stages of the COVID-19 crisis, from 50 billion to 100 billion KRW, and make every effort to ensure it is quickly delivered to residents."
The criteria for vulnerable groups with median income below 100% are as follows: 1-person household 1,757,000 KRW, 3-person household 3,871,000 KRW, and 5-person household 5,628,000 KRW.
Additionally, on the 23rd, the Provincial Council’s Economic and Tourism Committee planned to hold a meeting with affiliated organizations related to economic recovery to review issues and difficulties in economic responses during the COVID-19 crisis, but postponed the meeting due to the government’s announcement of a two-week nationwide social distancing directive.
Chairman Kim Taekyun stated, "The worsening management of small business owners, self-employed people, and small and medium enterprises due to COVID-19 will continue," and added, "We plan to prepare fundamental solutions together with Jeonnam Province along with support measures to revive and relaunch the local economy."

Meanwhile, following the government’s supplementary budget for early overcoming of the COVID-19 crisis confirmed on the 17th, the Jeonnam Provincial Council plans to urgently conduct a one-point supplementary budget.
