The sister party, the Future Korea Party, which had internal strife due to proportional representation nomination controversies, is also expected to finalize the proportional representation candidate list by the end of the day, deploying talents from the United Future Party.
Park Hyung-joon, co-chairman of the United Future Party's central election committee, said at the committee meeting held at the National Assembly on the morning of the 23rd, "We have set the election slogan as 'Cheer up Korea, We Must Change to Survive' and the subtitle as 'A New Future, A New Unity,'" adding, "In this general election, we will overcome the national crisis with the great power of the people and set Korea right."
He then referred to the recent incident involving the Democratic Party's proportional party 'The Citizens Party' and the 'Ministry of Justice blacklist' of Human Rights Bureau Chief Hwang Hee-seok, stating, "For them, democracy is being reinterpreted as hegemony and totalitarianism," emphasizing, "This election is a showdown to 'restore the people's will' against the remnants of Cho Kuk."
Co-chairman Shin Se-don also announced measures to overcome the economic difficulties caused by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). He said, "We have prepared a plan to support up to 10 million won for 2 to 3 months depending on the damage level of self-employed and small business owners, provide support for health insurance, insurance premiums, electricity, and fees according to income conditions, and defer comprehensive real estate tax, property tax, and value-added tax for at least six months," adding, "The 40 trillion won in emergency funds needed to implement these programs will be issued as national bonds."
He continued, "We plan to announce the third, fourth, and fifth rounds of measures, including financial support for the aviation and travel industries," and said, "We ask for the public's support to give legislative leadership to the United Future Party so that these measures can be concretized into legislation." Shin also appeared on YTN Radio's 'Noh Young-hee's Start of a New Morning' on the same day, stating, "We will continue to disclose policies declaring an economic transformation."
The Future Korea Party will finalize its proportional representation candidates today. After discussions by the nomination committee, the Future Korea Party will prepare a recommendation plan for proportional representation candidates and conduct a voter panel vote at the party headquarters in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, at 3 p.m. After the vote ends, the supreme council will convene to finalize the list.
Since the existing proportional representation recommendation plan is being revised due to objections from the United Future Party, it is expected that many candidates from talents recruited by the United Future Party will enter the top 20 winning positions. Yoon Joo-kyung, the great-granddaughter of independence activist Yoon Bong-gil and former director of the Independence Hall, is expected to be placed first on the proportional list. Former Dong-A Ilbo editorial writer Cho Soo-jin, who was previously number one, former Army Capital Defense Command Commander Shin Won-sik at number two, and visually impaired pianist Kim Ye-ji at number three will be pushed down but are still expected to be within the winning range.
