Quarantine Guidelines During Operation, Administrative Order Issued by Minister of Health and Welfare
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hyun-joo] Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun stated on the 22nd, "There can no longer be any tolerance for actions that obstruct the government's quarantine efforts and harm the community."
At the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters (CDSCH) meeting held at the Government Seoul Office that day, Prime Minister Chung said, "Facilities that do not comply with quarantine guidelines must be ordered to prohibit gatherings or assemblies, and strict legal measures such as punishment for violating these orders must be enforced."
In a statement released the previous day titled "Strengthening Social Distancing," Prime Minister Chung strongly recommended suspending operations of religious facilities, indoor sports facilities, and entertainment venues, which pose a high risk of mass infection, for fifteen days. This marked the second consecutive day emphasizing social distancing.
At the CDSCH meeting that day, Prime Minister Chung mentioned, "Today is the first day of the intensive fifteen-day 'social distancing' practice period, and quarantine guidelines that must be followed during unavoidable operations were issued as an administrative order by the Minister of Health and Welfare." He added, "This is the first case of a central government agency issuing an administrative order under the Infectious Disease Control and Prevention Act, reflecting an extraordinary determination to gain the upper hand in the war against COVID-19."
