Fostering Potential VIPs Through Customized Partnership Cards
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Shinsegae is launching the ‘Shinsegae THE S Samsung Card’ on the 23rd, in partnership with Samsung Card, which offers department store VIP benefits.
Shinsegae’s strategy with this card, which combines VIP benefits, is to nurture potential VIP customers and lower the threshold for department store access. Customers who receive this partnership card will be provided with six 5% department store discount coupons every month, as well as three free parking tickets.
“Special Mileage” is also accumulated at double the rate. Special Mileage is a system that accumulates purchase amounts when shopping at overseas luxury brands where discounts or promotional events are generally not available, and awards 3% of the accumulated amount in Shinsegae gift certificates. THE S card users accumulate 100% of their purchase amount, which is double the accumulation rate (50% of the purchase amount) of existing VIP customers (Gold level or higher).
Additionally, within a monthly limit, customers can receive a 7% discount at the department store and also access the existing VIP service, the Members Bar. The Shinsegae Academy (Cultural Center), which offers courses in finance, childcare, arts, liberal arts, and humanities, is also available at a 5% discount.
Samsung Card’s VIP benefits are added as well. Upon issuance of THE S card, customers are granted Samsung Card’s premium Gold status, providing various benefits such as 2-3 months interest-free installments at all merchants, 10% discount on SSG delivery, rental car discounts, various discount coupons, and Samsung Card shopping specials.

Seonghwan Lee, Executive Director of Sales Strategy at Shinsegae Department Store, said, “Analysis of department store big data last year showed that partnership card customers exhibit high loyalty and significant spending.” He added, “We will introduce various customized partnership cards to secure future VIP customers, who will be a major pillar of department store growth.”
