Periodic Visits and Consultations by Professional Medical Staff... Emergency Care Service for COVID-19 Self-Quarantined Employees
Proposal for Joint Discussion on Enhancing Industrial Safety with Cargo Transport Industry and Experts
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] Coupang announced on the 20th that it will strengthen safety measures for delivery workers. First, Coupang will provide remote health consultation services to all Coupangmen and have professional medical personnel conduct regular rounds.
Safety managers, who have been recruited since January, are planned to be deployed to all camps by the end of the first half of the year. In addition, if a Coupangman is quarantined or diagnosed positive during the emergency period of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), emergency care services will be provided. Group accident insurance is also subscribed for all employees, including Coupangmen, and their immediate family members.
Coupang is the only company in the industry that directly employs delivery personnel and has complied with the five-day workweek and 52-hour workweek system. According to the Korea Transport Institute, the parcel delivery industry based on the consignment system works an average of 12.2 hours per day and 25.6 days per month. Probationary Coupangmen are assigned 30-75% of the workload of regular Coupangmen until they adapt, reducing their burden. Separately from Coupangmen, Coupang has increased 'Coupang Flex' by up to three times to handle the increased volume due to COVID-19.
