The day before, E-Land Group held a ceremony at Team & Team's Seoul office in Seocho-gu, Seoul, attended by Jaecheol Jung, CEO of the E-Land Foundation, and Kangsoo Baek, Chairman of Team & Team, to deliver 100 million KRW in well funds for a drinking water improvement project in Ugandan villages.
This fund was raised through the full proceeds from the sale of 500,000 bottles of the Off-Price One Bottle Edition launched last December at E-Land Retail’s Kim’s Club, along with donations from E-Land Group employees and customers, and matching funds from the E-Land Foundation.
The funds provided by the E-Land Foundation will be used to improve drinking water in the Arua region of northern Uganda. In collaboration with the international relief NGO Team & Team, hygienic and safe drinking water environments will be provided to 33,000 residents across 44 villages in the area.
The E-Land Foundation stated that the region has a high incidence of waterborne diseases due to poor water conditions, and that improving the drinking water environment can continuously reduce the incidence of waterborne diseases, especially among children under five who are vulnerable to such illnesses.
Based on a professional local survey, the E-Land Foundation and Team & Team will establish one solar-powered water supply system, develop groundwater and install water pumps in three new villages, and repair and upgrade water pumps in 40 existing villages in the area.
CEO Jaecheol Jung said, “To ensure this well support project becomes a sustainable drinking water improvement initiative, we plan to organize autonomous groups responsible for well maintenance and management, and provide related education. It is especially meaningful that, through the fundraising participation of E-Land employees, 29 existing wells have been repaired and made usable.”
