Future United Party Nominates Park Jin for Seoul Gangnam-eul and Kim Do-eup for Busan Bukgangseo-eul
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] On the 19th, the United Future Party strategically nominated former lawmaker Park Jin for Gangnam-eul, Seoul. Incumbent lawmaker Kim Do-eup was selected as the candidate for Bukgangseo-eul, Busan.
Lee Seok-yeon, acting chairman of the United Future Party’s nomination committee, held a briefing at the National Assembly in the afternoon and announced the nomination results.
Former lawmaker Park, a three-term lawmaker elected in the 16th to 18th National Assembly from Jongno, Seoul, was highly evaluated in this nomination for his expertise in diplomacy. Initially, Choi Hong, former CEO of Macquarie Investment Asset Management, was given priority recommendation for Gangnam-eul, but the party’s supreme council canceled the nomination.
For Bukgangseo-eul, Busan, Kim Won-sung, a supreme council member, was initially nominated, but the nomination was canceled following a 'MeToo' allegation, and the opportunity went to lawmaker Kim Do-eup. Kim Do-eup had declared he would not run after taking responsibility for the failure to block the establishment of the High-ranking Officials’ Crime Investigation Unit (PCC) on December 31 last year, but he decided to run again on this day.
The nomination committee did not accept the United Future Party’s supreme council’s request for reconsideration regarding the nominees for Uiwang-Gwacheon and Siheung-eul.
However, the request for reconsideration for Yeonsu-gap, Incheon, was accepted, invalidating the nomination of former Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority head Kim Jin-yong and recommending Professor Jeong Seung-yeon of Inha University’s Department of Business Administration as the sole candidate.
Additionally, four former proportional representatives affiliated with the Ahn Cheol-soo faction who left the Minsheng Party and joined the United Future Party were given priority recommendations again for the regions where they had previously been nominated.

Previously, the United Future Party had nominated former lawmakers Lee Dong-seop, Kim Soo-min, Kim Sam-hwa, and Kim Jung-ro, who left the Bareunmirae Party (now Minsheng Party) through 'self-expulsion' and joined the United Future Party. However, due to a court ruling, the Ahn Cheol-soo faction’s party affiliation reverted to the Minsheng Party, and they left the Minsheng Party again to return to the United Future Party.
