Scattered Cluster Infections Also Affect Gyeonggi and Seoul
[Asia Economy Reporters Choi Dae-yeol, Kim Heung-soon, Jo Hyun-ui] The number of new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in South Korea has risen again to the 100s. According to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters on the 19th, as of midnight, the cumulative number of confirmed cases increased by 152 from 0:00 on the 18th to 8,565. The number of new confirmed cases had dropped to double digits at 76 on the 15th but returned to triple digits after five days.
The increase in new confirmed cases was influenced by a cluster infection in nine nursing hospitals in Daegu, where 94 patients were infected. The number of new patients in Daegu increased by 97 compared to the previous day. In Gyeonggi Province, where cluster infections occurred at Bundang Jesaeng Hospital and Eunhyeui Gang Church, the number of new patients also increased by 18 compared to the previous day. In Seoul, where patients related to the Guro Call Center, Dongdaemun-gu Dongan Church, and PC rooms were reported, 12 new patients were added.
In addition, sporadic cluster infection cases continue to emerge by region. Among the female ?p?e fencers of the national team who participated in the International Fencing Federation (FIE) Grand Prix held recently in Budapest, Hungary, and returned on the 15th, three were confirmed positive. There is a possibility of additional infections within the national team.
The number of new patients confirmed positive after entering the country from abroad also increased by five compared to the previous day. Considering the COVID-19 pandemic, the government expanded the scope of the 'special entry procedures' to include all domestic and foreign nationals entering the country as of midnight on this day.
