Female National Fencing Athlete from Taean Also Tests Positive for COVID-19... Third Player Confirmed (Update)
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] In Taean, Chungnam, an additional female national fencing athlete has tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), increasing the number of confirmed cases within the fencing national team to three.
According to Taean County and health authorities on the 19th, a 36-year-old female national ?p?e fencing athlete was tested at a local screening clinic the previous afternoon and confirmed positive for COVID-19.
The athlete had traveled to Taean for a 1-night, 2-day trip starting on the 17th with an acquaintance. After hearing that another teammate (25, female) was confirmed positive the day before in Ulsan, she underwent testing at the Taean County Health and Medical Center screening clinic and tested positive.
On the previous day, a 35-year-old female national ?p?e fencing athlete in Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province, was also confirmed positive, bringing the total confirmed cases in the fencing national team to three.

All of them participated in the International Fencing Federation (FIE) Grand Prix held recently in Budapest, Hungary, and returned to Korea on the 15th. After receiving notification of the athletes' positive tests, the Fencing Association reported the cases to the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee and arranged for all male and female national team athletes who attended the European competition, as well as the coaching staff and players, to undergo testing and be placed under self-quarantine. The possibility of additional cases among those tested cannot be ruled out.
