87 New COVID-19 Cases at Daegu Nursing Home... Cluster Infection Flare-Up Again
[Asia Economy Reporters Choi Dae-yeol and Jung Dong-hoon] On the 18th, 87 additional confirmed cases of COVID-19 were identified at five nursing hospitals in Daegu. The resurgence of cluster infections, which had subsided for a while, is raising concerns about community transmission.
According to Daegu City on the day, at Hansarang Nursing Hospital in Seo-gu, a total of 74 people tested positive, including 17 staff members and 57 patients. After one staff member was confirmed positive on the 16th, a full inspection was conducted on about 190 staff and patients, resulting in these findings. At Baeseong Hospital in Buk-gu, a total of 7 people tested positive, including one nurse and six patients. This hospital also conducted tests on all staff and patients after one staff member was confirmed positive on the 16th.
In addition, nearly 90 new patients were reported in nursing hospitals in Daegu on the same day: 4 at Suseong Nursing Hospital in Suseong-gu, and 1 each at Jinmyeong Silver Home in Dong-gu and Siji Nursing Hospital in Suseong-gu. Daegu Mayor Kwon Young-jin stated, "Currently, about 30% of the full inspection has been completed, and additional confirmed cases are expected to emerge."
Meanwhile, as of 0:00 on the same day, the number of new confirmed cases was 93, bringing the total confirmed cases in the country to 8,413. The number of recovered patients increased by 139, raising the total number of those released from isolation to 1,540.
