Face Synthesis 'Deepfake' Video Crimes Punishable by Up to 5 Years Imprisonment

The Ministry of Justice announced that the partial amendment bill to the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes, including this content, was approved at the Cabinet meeting on the 17th. This amendment will take effect on June 25, three months after its promulgation.
Anyone who produces or distributes deepfake videos that cause sexual desire or shame against the will of the subject will be punished by imprisonment for up to 5 years or a fine of up to 50 million won, and if produced or distributed for profit, the punishment will be increased to imprisonment for up to 7 years.
