Korean Tour "17 Events This Year?"... "Closely Monitoring 'COVID-19'"
Starting the 2020 Season at the Promy Open on the 23rd of Next Month, 2 Events Removed Compared to Last Year, 4 New Events Added "Total Prize Money Around 15 Billion Won"
[Asia Economy Kim Hyun-jun, Golf Specialist Reporter] "17 tournaments with a total prize money of 13.7 billion KRW + α."
This is the scale of the Korean Professional Golf Association (KPGA) Korean Tour this year. On the 17th, KPGA announced, "The 2020 season will kick off at the DB Insurance Promy Open on the 23rd of next month, with a total of 17 tournaments scheduled." The Genesis Championship, boasting the largest prize money in Korea, will be held from October 8, and the final event will be the Players Championship on November 5. KPGA Chairman Koo Ja-chul (photo) added, "Due to the recent spread of COVID-19, overseas events are being postponed or canceled, and the Korean Tour is also closely monitoring the situation."
Compared to last year, two tournaments have been removed, and four new ones have been added. The Huons Elravie Celebrity Pro-Am in May and the Munsingwear Match Play in June were excluded from the schedule last year. The newly established events are two different "OO Open" tournaments in July and August, the IS Industrial Development Open in September, and the "OO Players Championship" in November. The first three tournaments have a total prize money of 500 million KRW, while the Players Championship offers 1 billion KRW. Since the SK Telecom Open has not yet decided on its prize money (12 billion KRW last year), the total prize money is expected to increase to around 15 billion KRW.
