Mun Seokgyun "I am Moon Heesang National Assembly Speaker's Son" Direct Criticism of Democratic Party Nomination System
[Asia Economy Reporter Wondara] Former Democratic Party Standing Vice Chairman Moon Seok-gyun declared his independent candidacy and directly criticized the Democratic Party's nomination system. Moon explained his reason for leaving the party and running as an independent, saying, "The Democratic Party nominated a candidate with no connection to Uijeongbu City," and added, "It was unbearable to tolerate this outrage that trampled on the pride of the citizens."
At a press conference held at Uijeongbu City Hall on the morning of the 17th, Moon said, "After withdrawing as a preliminary candidate, I earnestly requested the Democratic Party Central Committee to send a candidate suitable for Uijeongbu City, one who would be honorable to the citizens and party members of Uijeongbu," but "the Democratic Party nominated a candidate with no ties to Uijeongbu City."
He continued, "This decision by the Democratic Party brutally trampled on the pride of Uijeongbu citizens and betrayed the party members of the Uijeongbu Gap regional committee who demanded at least democratic procedures and a fair primary," and criticized, "I have no words to express the sorrowful feelings of being forced to run as an independent."
Moon also stated, "As a party member and vice chairman of the Democratic Party Youth Committee, I devoted all my efforts to the 2012 presidential election, and in 2017, President Moon Jae-in was elected," and questioned, "I want to ask the Democratic Party: what has the candidate imposed by the central party done for the Democratic Party and the birth of the current administration?" He further emphasized, "The Democratic Party is ultimately heading down a path that will lead to defeat," and said, "It was hard to contain my despair and anger at such an outrage by the Democratic Party."
He also emphasized that he is the son of National Assembly Speaker Moon Hee-sang. Moon said, "I am the son of National Assembly Speaker Moon Hee-sang," and added, "Because of the photo on the wanted poster, I was mocked as 'the son of a little communist.' During those harsh times, Moon Seok-gyun, the eldest son of a politician who devoted his entire life to democracy on this land, was a young head of household." He continued, "I attended elementary, middle, and high school in Uijeongbu and was an ordinary citizen living together with the people of Uijeongbu," and added, "I was able to forget my politician father's absence in the embrace of Uijeongbu citizens."
Moon said, "With the determination of jumping into a fire, I will focus solely on Uijeongbu and its citizens and strive to win the election," and emphasized, "I will definitely survive and return to the arms of Uijeongbu citizens." His pledges include ▲ Uijeongbu as the central city of the Gyeonggi Northern Peace Special Autonomous Province ▲ integration of Uijeongbu and Yangju ▲ relocation of the reserve forces training center in Howon-dong ▲ construction of a sports complex ▲ installation of Hoeryong IC.
Meanwhile, Democratic Party leader Lee Hae-chan stated at a high-level strategy meeting the previous day, "If someone who prepared to run in the April 15 general election leaves the party after not receiving the nomination and runs as an independent, they will be permanently expelled."

Earlier, Moon held a book launch event for his book 'The Son of That House' in January and declared, "I will firmly reject the 'Dad's Chance'." However, when controversy over 'hereditary nomination' arose, he gave up running, and the Democratic Party nominated candidate Oh, a former firefighter, in this district. Moon left the Democratic Party on the 16th, a day before declaring his candidacy. Lee's statement about 'permanent expulsion' is analyzed to be aimed at Moon and Min Byung-doo, who declared independent candidacies in Dongdaemun-eul.
