Hong Hye-gul "Even Opinion Leaders Treat Me Like a 'Fake News Producer'... It's Ridiculous"
[Asia Economy Reporter Shinwon Yoon] Dr. Hong Hye-gul, a medical doctor and broadcaster who is the head of the medical channel 'Biondwi,' recently clarified again regarding his statement that domestic COVID-19 diagnostic kits might fall short of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) standards.
On the 17th, Hong posted on his Facebook, "I do not pay attention to malicious commenters on my Facebook who have no understanding of the minimal scientific truth behind the context. They simply dislike me," adding, "However, it is hard to accept when media outlets or opinion leaders mention my real name and spread false information."
He explained, "They criticize me as if I am a fake news producer without fact-checking, emphasizing that the statement by a U.S. congressman refers to antigen-antibody tests, while we use PCR (polymerase chain reaction), which is the internationally recognized standard method for COVID-19 confirmation," and clarified, "I am not saying PCR is wrong, but among various methods, our initial approach did not meet FDA standards and could be a flaw in improving accuracy, which is what I want to examine."
He continued, "It's like choosing between Airline A and Airline B based on which has a lower cancellation rate and friendlier crew, but they argue with me that flying is right and question why I say flying is wrong," concluding, "It's truly absurd."

In another post earlier that day, he said, "I still believe our country's kits are excellent and deserve praise," adding, "However, if a 90-point score can become 100 points, that would be even better, and I hope any possible improvements are made through this controversy."
