Taiclet, the current chairman of American Tower (AMT), has been appointed as the new CEO and chairman of the U.S. defense contractor Lockheed Martin. CEO Taiclet is a former Air Force pilot with Gulf War combat experience and previously worked at the manufacturer of the F-35 fighter jet engines for Lockheed Martin.
Lockheed Martin announced on the 16th (local time) that it had appointed Taiclet, chairman of AMT, as the new CEO. CEO Taiclet is scheduled to officially take office on June 15. Marilyn Hewson, the current chairman and CEO, decided to continue serving as the chairman of the board following a shareholder vote.
CEO Taiclet has served as CEO and chairman of AMT since 2003, during which time AMT's market capitalization grew from $2 billion (approximately 2.5 trillion KRW) to $100 billion, earning him a reputation for excellent management skills. AMT is a U.S. REIT (Real Estate Investment Trust) company engaged in leasing communication towers and transmission towers.
He graduated from the United States Air Force Academy and served as an Air Force officer and pilot during the Gulf War. He holds a master's degree in engineering from Princeton University. Before joining AMT in 2001, he was president of Honeywell Aerospace Services, a subsidiary of Honeywell International, and prior to that, he was responsible for engine services at Pratt & Whitney, a subsidiary of United Technologies Corporation. Pratt & Whitney was the manufacturer of the engine section for the F-35 stealth fighter produced by Lockheed Martin. Earlier, he also worked as a consultant at McKinsey & Company, specializing in communications and aerospace strategy and operations. CEO Taiclet joined the Lockheed Martin board in 2018.
