[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Young-shin] The Hong Kong South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported on the 17th that China has completed the design of a floating hospital (emergency medical ship) to prevent infectious diseases such as the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
According to SCMP, China has designed an emergency medical ship dedicated to infectious diseases to effectively manage unknown infectious diseases. The Chinese Navy currently possesses a 14,000-ton hospital ship, but SCMP explained that this vessel is designed mainly for non-infectious diseases, making it difficult to respond in the event of an infectious disease outbreak.
SCMP introduced that the core of the infectious disease-dedicated medical ship is its quarantine capability to prevent cross-infection, and for this purpose, the emergency medical ship was designed by referring to the cabin structure and air conditioning system of existing cruise ships.
