[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction announced on the 17th that it has signed a contract to supply 12 transfer cranes to Busan Port Authority. The 12 transfer cranes are scheduled to be installed at the west side of Busan New Port, phases 2-5, and Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction plans to supply them by March 2022.
Transfer cranes are equipment that remotely and unmanned operate to load or transport containers in the terminal yard. Busan New Port, which opened in 2006, currently operates about 230 transfer cranes. Among them, except for the 49 units supplied by Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction in phase 1-1 in 2006, the rest are all Chinese products.
Earlier, Busan Port Authority conducted a bid starting last month targeting companies that have designed, manufactured, and delivered 12 or more transfer cranes and have over one year of commercial operation experience. The bid price at that time was set at 45.76 billion KRW for 12 units.
Park Hong-wook, Head of Power Service BG at Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction, said, "With this order, we will supply cranes made domestically to Busan New Port for the first time in about 15 years," adding, "We will supply high-quality and high-performance cranes to Busan New Port together with domestic partners."
