Samsung Electronics Starts Operation of Xi'an Plant 2 in China: "Minimized Impact of COVID-19"
Samsung Electronics' Only Overseas Memory Semiconductor Production Base
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] Samsung Electronics' second semiconductor plant in Xi'an, China, has begun its initial operation.
According to industry sources on the 16th, Samsung Electronics held a shipment celebration event on the 10th at the Xi'an Plant 2. The Xi'an plant is Samsung Electronics' only overseas memory semiconductor production base, and the second plant will mass-produce 3D-structured V-NAND flash memory.
Ji Hyun-gi, Managing Director of Samsung Electronics China Corporation, said at the shipment ceremony, "In February, we faced difficulties such as logistics disruptions, raw material supply issues, and labor shortages, but through the efforts of local governments and companies to strengthen quarantine measures, we minimized the impact of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19)."

Previously, there were concerns in the industry about delays in the ramp-up (process optimization) of Xi'an Plant 2 due to the worsening COVID-19 situation. However, Samsung Electronics announced that the first phase investment equipment will be fully operational in March as originally planned.
