Ryu Yeon-gi Appointed as the 30th Commissioner of Yeongsangang River Basin Environmental Office
"Establishing a Safe Environmental Management System for Local Residents and Focusing on Environmentally Friendly National Land Management"

On the 16th, newly appointed 30th Yeongsangang River Basin Environmental Office Chief ’Ryu Yeon-gi‘ stated this in his inaugural address.
Chief Ryu said, “We will actively respond to fine dust to build an environmental management system that local residents can trust and feel secure with,” adding, “We will concentrate our efforts on strengthening cooperation and response systems with related organizations to prevent chemical and water pollution accidents and minimize damage when they occur.”
He continued, “We will strive to improve the aquatic ecological environment of the Yeongsangang and Seomjingang River basins by making full use of the Ministry of Environment’s enhanced water management functions, such as the unification of water management and the launch of the Water Management Committee.”
He also stated, “To achieve sustainable land management where humans and nature, development and conservation coexist harmoniously, we will guide environmentally friendly development of projects within the region,” and “We will work to continuously discover and preserve natural resources with outstanding ecological value.”
He urged the staff, saying, “Let us all work together to create a vibrant workplace that fosters harmony and communication,” and added, “Please carry out your duties with a sense of mission to contribute to environmental conservation and the improvement of quality of life in the region.”
Meanwhile, Chief Ryu, who officially began his duties on this day, passed the 37th Administrative Examination and graduated from Yonsei University with a bachelor’s degree in Public Administration and a master’s degree in Public Policy from the Graduate School of Public Administration at the same university.
He has served as the Ministry of Environment’s Creative Innovation Officer, Head of the Resource Recycling Division, Administrative Officer at the Presidential Office of National Public Relations, Head of the Domestic Sewage Division, Head of the Living Environment Division, and Director of the Chemical Safety Agency.
