Gwangju City Promotes Improvement of Working Conditions in Youth Employment-Excellent Small and Medium Enterprises
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 16th that it will promote a workplace environment improvement project targeting local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that are actively employing young people.
The workplace environment improvement project aims to increase worker satisfaction by installing and renovating employee convenience facilities such as break rooms, dormitories, and cafeterias.
Eligible applicants are SMEs located in Gwangju that have been operating normally for more than two years, have at least five full-time employees, annual sales of 20 billion KRW or less, and have increased youth employment by at least two people compared to the previous year.
Support is provided up to a limit of 20 million KRW per company, and a total of 20 companies will be selected through a first document screening and a second on-site inspection.
Companies wishing to participate can check the announcement titled “Youth Employment Excellent Company Workplace Environment Improvement Project” posted on the city’s website (scheduled to be posted on the 17th) or the Gwangju Economic Employment Promotion Agency, and submit application documents by the 10th of next month.
Since 2016, Gwangju City has invested 1.4 billion KRW to select and support 81 companies that excel in new youth recruitment and employment retention.

Gu Jong-cheon, the city’s Job Policy Officer, said, “With the domestic and global economy shrinking due to COVID-19, SMEs are going through even tougher times. We will actively support companies that are proactive in hiring young people during these difficult times so that both companies and youth can grow into good workplaces where they coexist.”
