Gwangju Seo-gu Yang3-dong 'COVID-19' Impact Draws Attention for Helping Residents
Delivery of 'Love Safety Masks' and 'Daily Necessities Kits'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Yang 3-dong, Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City is striving hard for residents and vulnerable groups suffering from the impact of COVID-19.
On the 13th, according to Yang 3-dong in Seo-gu, the Residents' Autonomy Committee (Chairman Kim Samrye) distributed self-made 'Love Safety Masks' to overcome the COVID-19 crisis in cooperation with local organizations.
Although a 5-day rotation system for mask sales has been implemented at pharmacies since the 9th due to the spread and prolongation of COVID-19, a nationwide mask shortage has occurred, prompting residents to take initiative to help each other.
During these difficult times, while wondering if there was anything we could do to help our neighbors, members of the Residents' Autonomy Committee and other local organizations joined forces to produce safety masks.
Since last weekend, they prepared sewing machines, fabric, filters, and other materials needed for mask production, and after watching online tutorial videos and trying it themselves, officials said it was not as easy as expected.
About 1,000 masks produced in this way were first distributed to the elderly and children vulnerable to infection, and additional masks will be produced and distributed to low-income families, social welfare facilities, public institutions, and quarantine volunteer workers.
Kim Samrye, chairman of the Residents' Autonomy Committee, said, "I am glad to contribute a small help in overcoming this crisis," and added, "I hope the COVID-19 situation will be resolved as soon as possible."
Earlier, the Yang 3-dong Community Security Council (Chairman Park Sinhwa) delivered daily necessities kits to 150 vulnerable and low-income households threatened in their livelihoods by COVID-19.
Due to the spread of COVID-19, delays in kindergarten and school admissions, as well as closures of social welfare facilities including local children's centers, are continuing, causing expected difficulties for vulnerable groups, so this initiative was undertaken to provide some support.
The daily necessities kits consisted of essential items such as hand sanitizer, ramen, soy milk, and safety masks.
