Last Month Gwangju-Jeonnam Region 'Employment Rate ↑ · Unemployment Rate ↓'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Last month, the employment rate in the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions increased compared to the same month last year, while the unemployment rate decreased.
According to the "Gwangju and Jeonnam Employment Trends" released on the 13th by the Honam Regional Statistics Office, the employment rate in Gwangju Metropolitan City last month was 59.1%, up 0.9 percentage points compared to the same month last year. The unemployment rate was 3.4%, down 1.9 percentage points compared to the same month last year.
The number of employed persons was 750,000, an increase of 15,000 compared to the same month last year.
The population aged 15 and over in the Gwangju area was 1.27 million, an increase of 7,000 (0.5%) compared to the same month last year, and the economically active population was 777,000, the same as the same month last year. The economic activity participation rate was 61.2%, down 0.3 percentage points compared to the same month last year.
By industry, compared to the same month last year, agriculture, forestry, and fisheries increased by 9,000 (110.4%), wholesale and retail, accommodation, and food services increased by 9,000 (5.8%), manufacturing increased by 2,000 (1.9%), while construction decreased by 2,000 (-3.2%), and electricity, transportation, communication, and finance decreased by 2,000 (-2.0%).
The number of non-wage workers was 166,000, and the number of wage workers was 584,000.
Non-wage workers increased by 2,000 (1.2%) compared to the same month last year, among whom self-employed decreased by 3,000 (-1.7%), and unpaid family workers increased by 4,000 (23.2%).
Wage workers increased by 13,000 (2.2%) compared to the same month last year. Among them, regular workers increased by 9,000 (2.2%), temporary workers increased by 6,000 (4.6%), and daily workers decreased by 2,000 (-6.5%).
The number of unemployed was 27,000, a decrease of 15,000 (-35.4%) compared to the same month last year.
Men numbered 16,000, down 6,000 (-26.5%) compared to the same month last year, and women numbered 11,000, down 9,000 (-45.4%) compared to the same month last year.
The unemployment rate by gender was 3.7% for men, down 1.3 percentage points compared to the same month last year, and 3.1% for women, down 2.6 percentage points compared to the same month last year.
The employment rate in Jeonnam was 63.3%, up 1.7 percentage points compared to the same month last year, and the unemployment rate was 3.0%, down 0.2 percentage points compared to the same month last year.
The population aged 15 and over was 1.53 million, down 8,000 (-0.5%) compared to the same month last year.
The economically active population was 999,000, an increase of 20,000 (2.0%) compared to the same month last year, and the economic activity participation rate was 65.3%, up 1.6 percentage points compared to the same month last year.
The number of employed persons was 968,000, an increase of 21,000 (2.2%) compared to the same month last year.
By industry, compared to the same month last year, business, personal, and public services increased by 26,000 (8.1%), construction increased by 6,000 (7.8%), wholesale and retail, accommodation, and food services increased by 8,000 (4.5%). On the other hand, electricity, transportation, communication, and finance decreased by 9,000 (-11.3%), agriculture, forestry, and fisheries decreased by 9,000 (-4.9%), and manufacturing decreased by 2,000 (-1.7%).
By occupation, compared to the same month last year, skilled, machine operation, and simple assembly workers increased by 13,000 (4.4%), service and sales workers increased by 7,000 (3.1%), office workers increased by 4,000 (2.8%), but skilled agricultural, forestry, and fishery workers decreased by 6,000 (-3.5%).
The number of non-wage workers was 350,000, and the number of wage workers was 619,000.
Wage workers increased by 42,000 (7.4%) compared to the same month last year. Among them, regular workers increased by 21,000 (5.6%), temporary workers increased by 19,000 (11.9%), and daily workers increased by 3,000 (6.6%).
The number of unemployed was 30,000, a decrease of 1,000 (-3.2%) compared to the same month last year. By gender, men numbered 17,000, an increase of 2,000 (15.4%) compared to the same month last year, while women numbered 14,000, a decrease of 3,000 (-18.1%).
Meanwhile, Statistics Korea investigates the economic activities of the people, such as employment and unemployment characteristics, to provide basic data necessary for macroeconomic analysis and human resource development and policy formulation.
