Cancellation of the World's Largest Film Industry Expo Due to COVID-19 Spread
[Asia Economy Reporter Jonggil Lee] The world's largest film industry expo has been canceled due to the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). This is CinemaCon, organized annually by the National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO) in Las Vegas, USA. It attracts theater owners worldwide, Hollywood major studios, and companies related to film equipment, showcasing new technologies.
American media outlets such as Variety reported on the 11th (local time) that this year's CinemaCon was canceled due to the rapid spread of COVID-19. NATO stated in a press release, "We regret to announce the cancellation of the event." They explained, "Due to the COVID-19 pandemic (the highest alert level for infectious diseases declared by the World Health Organization), travel from the European Union has been banned, and it has become difficult for others to come to the United States," adding, "Film industry professionals worldwide will not be able to attend CinemaCon."
