[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] A joint commissioning ceremony for 169 individuals, including the 36th class of the Korean National Police University, the 68th class of police officer candidates, and experienced hires such as lawyers and accountants, was held on the afternoon of the 12th at the Korean National Police University in Asan, Chungnam.
This commissioning ceremony was conducted under the slogan "Police Reform 2020: Closer to the People, Into the Field." It symbolizes the appointees' commitment to becoming reliable partners who take responsibility for public safety by getting closer to the people through police reform and protecting citizens at the crime scenes.
Notably, exemplary senior police officers participated, including Sergeant Choi Yong-hoon of the Criminal Division at Seoul Geumcheon Police Station, who volunteered three times to transport Korean residents from Wuhan, China during the COVID-19 outbreak; Lee Seung-myung, Chief of the Intelligent Crime Investigation Unit at the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency, who contributed to securing 4.32 million masks by cracking down on hoarding; and Lieutenant Gong Eun-kyung of the Forensic Science Division at the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency, who played a decisive role as a profiler in the 'Lee Chun-jae Serial Murder Case' by obtaining Lee Chun-jae's confession. However, due to the COVID-19 situation, the police did not invite the families of the appointees and minimized the attendance of external guests.
The appointees made a pledge called the "Human Rights Police Oath," expressing their aspiration to protect human rights and become fair and warm-hearted police officers, and delivered the pledge document to the Chairperson of the Police Human Rights Committee.
