Haenam-gun to Fully Pay Farmers and Fishermen's Public Interest Allowance in the First Half of the Year
Rapid Steps to Revitalize Local Economy Overcoming COVID-19, First Payment Starts This April
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Myeong Hyun-gwan) announced on the 11th that it will pay the full amount of this year's public interest allowance for farmers and fishermen in the first half of the year to revitalize the local economy, which is struggling due to COVID-19.
This year, the public interest allowance for farmers and fishermen in Jeollanam-do was scheduled to be paid 300,000 KRW each in the first and second halves of the year, but due to the spread of COVID-19 and the resulting economic downturn, it was decided to pay the full amount in the first half.
The payment will be made twice, in April and May, with 300,000 KRW each time, in Haenam Love Gift Certificates.
As of the application deadline for the Jeollanam-do public interest allowance for farmers and fishermen on the 5th, 14,340 people applied within Haenam-gun, and it is expected that about 10 billion KRW will be paid this year as the scale of the farmers and fishermen allowance.
Haenam-gun's farmers' allowance, first introduced nationwide last year, has been expanded to the Jeollanam-do public interest allowance for farmers and fishermen starting this year and is being implemented across all 22 cities and counties in the province.
Since the outbreak of COVID-19, the county has proposed to Jeollanam-do since last month to expedite the payment of the public interest allowance, and after reviewing and consulting on the schedule for the allowance, the first payment will be possible in April.
The early payment of the public interest allowance for farmers and fishermen is expected to greatly help not only the farmers and fishermen who are the payment targets but also small business owners who are suffering greatly from the economic downturn.
The public interest allowance for farmers and fishermen is paid to farmers and fishermen to maintain and enhance the public functions of agriculture, fisheries, and rural areas as much as possible, and is paid in Haenam Love Gift Certificates, a local currency that can only be used within the Haenam area, thereby stimulating the local economy.
The county plans to implement strong economic stimulus measures, including the rapid payment of the public interest allowance for farmers and fishermen, issuance of 40 billion KRW worth of Haenam Love Gift Certificates with a 10% discount sale, and rapid execution of a budget of 278.1 billion KRW in the first half of the year.
