Half of Seoul National University Freshmen Are from Regular High Schools... Repeat Students Account for About 20%
Seoul National University Distributes Admission Materials for 2020 Academic Year New Students
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] Seoul National University finalized the selection of a total of 3,341 new students for the 2020 academic year (based on final registration in March).
First, in the early admission process, a total of 2,471 students were selected: 610 through the Regional Balanced Selection Track, 1,701 through the General Track, and 160 through the Special Opportunity Balanced Selection Track I.
In the regular admission process, a total of 870 students were selected: 862 through the General Track and 8 through the Special Opportunity Balanced Selection Track II (6 for special education candidates and 2 for North Korean defectors).
Among the 3,341 final registrants, the largest group was from general high schools with 1,696 students (50.8%), followed by autonomous private high schools with 524 (15.7%), autonomous public high schools with 140 (4.2%), science high schools with 123 (3.7%), gifted high schools with 282 (8.4%), foreign language high schools with 294 (8.8%), international high schools with 51 (1.5%), arts and physical education high schools with 182 (5.4%), specialized high schools with 11 (0.3%), GED holders with 33 (1.0%), and others (including foreign high schools) with 5 (0.1%).
Also, regarding the high school graduation status of the final registrants, 522 students (15.6%) were repeaters who took the college entrance exam again, 156 (4.7%) were third-time or more repeaters, 95 (2.8%) were early graduates, and 33 (1.0%) were GED holders. Current high school students accounted for 2,535 (75.9%).
