On the morning of the same day, Ambassador Harris toured the pre-departure quarantine site at Terminal 2 of Incheon Airport and received explanations about the quarantine procedures from officials of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and Incheon International Airport Corporation. The Korean government is conducting pre-boarding quarantine procedures to prevent additional entry restrictions imposed by other countries on arrivals from Korea. Incheon Airport checks for fever three times for all departing passengers: upon entering the terminal departure floor, during check-in, and at the boarding gate.
At 8:30 a.m., Ambassador Harris, along with Kim Sang-do, Director General of Aviation Policy at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and Koo Bon-hwan, President of Incheon Airport Corporation, visited the "U.S. Route Departure Quarantine Inspection Room" installed at Incheon Airport Terminal 2. After receiving a brief briefing on the "three-stage quarantine system," he personally visited each quarantine station. He observed the fever screening process and also underwent the fever check himself.
Ambassador Harris expressed his respect for the multiple protective measures taken for passengers departing to the United States and even said in Korean, "Himnaeseyo" (Stay strong).
He added, "The Korean government and Incheon Airport are collaborating to implement meticulous and phased measures," and said, "I believe Korea's approach can serve as a global model in preventing the spread of COVID-19. The Korean government's efforts to protect passengers are commendable."
