Seodaemun-gu Volunteers Donate Skills to Produce 1,000 Masks
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Residents of Seodaemun-gu with fabric cutting and sewing skills have volunteered their talents to make masks and donate them to vulnerable neighbors.
Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Moon Seok-jin) announced on the 11th that volunteer activities to directly produce cloth masks and distribute them to neighbors in need have started within the local community this week.
The work is carried out by resident volunteers skilled in fabric cutting measuring and cutting the fabric to size, then volunteers with sewing machines take the fabric to sew at home or in workshops. The materials needed for mask production are supported by Seodaemun-gu.
About 30 residents, including members of Seodaemun-gu volunteer organizations, volunteer camps in each neighborhood, and volunteers from the Seodaemun Women's Center, are participating in talent donation for cutting and sewing with a goal of producing 1,000 masks by the 17th of this month.
In particular, the masks they make are washable cotton products, and the filters can be replaced for reuse.
The masks produced through residents' talent donation will be distributed to households with disabled persons in the area starting from the 12th of this month.
Seodaemun Disabled Welfare Center, Seodaemun Under the Sun Disabled Independent Living Center, and the Korean Association of the Blind Seodaemun Branch will deliver masks and dedicated filters to disability activity supporters and disabled service users.
