New Political Parties Flood In... Haeknara Party, Gukgi Taekwondo Party, Joguk Suho Party, etc.
[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] As the general election approaches in about a month, new political parties are emerging rapidly.
According to the Central Election Commission on the 11th, there are currently 42 registered parties, including the Democratic Party of Korea and the United Future Party. Additionally, there are 34 preparatory committees registered with the goal of founding parties, including the National Taekwondo Party (tentative name) and the South-North Unification Party (tentative name). If all of these complete their founding, there will be a total of 76 parties. In the 20th general election, 27 parties were registered with the Election Commission.
Minor parties have proposed unique pledges. For example, the Nuclear Country Party (tentative name) has made withdrawing from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) to manufacture nuclear weapons its core pledge, while the Marriage Future Party (tentative name) has pledged to provide free nationwide marriage information services.
Mr. Huh Kyung-young, who ran in the 15th and 17th presidential elections, registered the National Revolutionary Dividend Party (Dividend Party) last September and continues its activities. The Dividend Party has pledged to provide a national dividend of 1.5 million won per person to all citizens aged 20 and over, and an additional 700,000 won monthly to seniors aged 65 and above along with the national dividend.
Civilian supporters of former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk have also formed the Preparatory Committee for the Founding of the Cho Kuk Protection Party (tentative name). In their founding statement, they said, "Recently, we have witnessed the ruthless violence inflicted by the corrupt and evil political prosecution on the minister and his family, who were trying to carry out reforms under the people's mandate," and added, "We aim to overcome the limitations of the established political forces and create a new political organization to protect Cho Kuk from the entrenched corrupt forces with clear historical awareness and decisive action."
