Eonju Lee: "Ranked 1st in infections per capita but claims 1st in testing as mental victory"
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Seulgi Kim] Lee Eon-ju, a member of the Future United Party, criticized Minister of Health and Welfare Park Neung-hoo's remarks, saying, "I am baffled to see those who change the world's number one infection rate per capita to the world's number one number of tests and then engage in self-delusion."
On the 10th, Lee posted on her Facebook, "I already knew this shameless regime only praises itself without caring about the suffering people, but it makes me angry," expressing her frustration.
Earlier, on the 8th, Minister Park said at a regular briefing held at the Government Seoul Office, "Our country's diagnostic testing can reach up to 17,000 tests per day, and the cumulative number of tests has reached 190,000. The large number of patients in our country proves our outstanding diagnostic testing capacity."
He added, "Traditional quarantine management systems such as lockdowns or isolation only delay the initial entry period," and explained, "Our country's response can be a model case for other countries and a global standard."

In response to Minister Park's remarks, Lee said, "This is a total failure in COVID-19 quarantine. This is the current state of the Republic of Korea," and argued, "Considering that Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) has lower transmissibility but is more fatal than the novel coronavirus, and unlike the MERS outbreak, community transmission has already spread widely, this COVID-19 situation is a quarantine failure on a completely different level than during MERS."
