Gyeongnam Gimhae-si Invests 24.1 Billion Won in Yongseongcheon Ecological Stream Restoration Project
Ministry of Environment Selects 'Ecological Stream Restoration Project' ... Providing Attractions Linked to Bongha Village
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Woo-kwon] Gimhae City in Gyeongnam announced on the 10th that it will actively promote the Yongseongcheon Ecological Stream Restoration Project by investing 24.1 billion KRW.
Earlier, Gimhae City established a restoration plan for Yongseongcheon linked to the creation of a nature-friendly stream and the basic plan for landscape maintenance of Bongha Village. After conducting a feasibility study and establishing the basic plan in October last year, it was selected for the Ministry of Environment's '2020 Ecological Stream Restoration Project' at the end of the year.
Accordingly, the project will restore waterways and trails connected to ecological exploration routes such as the 3 km-long Bonghahwapo-gil. It will also create ecological wetlands and waterside ecological parks linked to Hwapocheon Ecological Wetland Park. The city plans to issue the detailed design order this month, start construction in the first half of 2021, and complete it by December 2023.

A city official stated, "Once the Yongseongcheon Ecological Stream Restoration Project is completed, it will not only improve the water quality of the stream but also secure aquatic ecological and recreational spaces similar to Haebancheon and Yulhacheon, which are major urban streams in our city, providing visitors to Bongha Village with another attraction." He added, "We will continue to discover stream-related projects implemented by central government departments and do our best to restore ecological streams."
