Gochang County Council Issues Statement to Defend the Livelihoods of Salt Farm Households in Simwon-myeon
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jae-gil] The Gochang County Council (Chairman Jo Gyu-cheol) announced the "Gochang-gun Simwon-myeon Salt Farm Livelihood Protection Statement" on the 10th.
Last July, the salt farm land around the Simwon-myeon coastline is a precious asset that the people of Gochang-gun must cultivate. In particular, as the registration of the tidal flats as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site is underway, they resolved to oppose the approval of solar power generation facilities and energy facilities.

Accordingly, the Gochang County Council stated, "We strongly oppose the nationwide largest solar power generation facility that damages the natural landscape of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve," and added, "We hope the landowners immediately withdraw the survival rights-threatening act of unilaterally reporting the closure of the lease business without consulting the salt farm households, which makes it impossible to supply industrial electricity to the salt farms. We also urge the two solar power companies to accept the administrative trial results and immediately stop all actions that make the livelihoods of the salt farm households difficult."
