Gyeonggi-do, 31 Sites 'Caught' Handling Hazardous Materials Illegally
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province has uncovered 31 sites, including construction sites, illegally handling hazardous materials.
The Gyeonggi Province Special Judicial Police Unit announced on the 10th that, as a result of investigating illegal handling of hazardous materials at large construction sites across the province from January 15 to February 28, they identified 31 locations and booked the representatives.
Nineteen large apartment construction sites and twelve unauthorized hazardous material manufacturing facilities were detected.
The main violations include ▲ storing and handling hazardous materials at construction sites without temporary storage use approval (19 sites) ▲ manufacturing solid fuel without permission (6 sites) ▲ storing hazardous materials at unauthorized locations (6 sites), among others.
At the A apartment construction site in Gyeonggi Province, solid fuel classified as Class 2 hazardous material was stored and used in quantities 48 times the minimum permitted amount (1,000 kg), totaling 48,000 kg (3,840 drums), leading to detection.
The B apartment construction site illegally stored and used approximately 35,000 liters of kerosene for hot air machines, 35 times the minimum permitted amount (1,000 liters), resulting in detection.

The C company is suspected of producing and distributing about 72,000 kg (6,060 drums) of solid fuel without permission and storing large quantities of hazardous materials in unauthorized warehouses.
