View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the 8th, Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha spoke with Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), and announced that South Korea would contribute 3 million dollars to support WHO's international cooperation activities against the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
On the 9th, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained, "Minister Kang spoke with Director-General Tedros the previous day, explaining South Korea's transparent and proactive COVID-19 prevention efforts, and expressed the intention to contribute 3 million dollars to support WHO's international cooperation activities on COVID-19, including support for health-vulnerable countries and promotion of research and development."
In response, Director-General Tedros expressed his appreciation for the Korean government's COVID-19 response measures, stating that he is well aware of and values them, and thanked South Korea for its willingness to contribute.

Earlier, Director-General Tedros posted on his Twitter that he had a "very productive call" with Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha. He said, "WHO appreciates their engagement to suppress COVID-19 and save lives," and mentioned, "Thank you for the commitment of 3 million dollars for the global response."
