Daegu Firefighter Confirmed Positive for Novel Coronavirus... 6 Cases Nationwide
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] A firefighter in his 50s working in Daegu has tested positive for the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19). The total number of confirmed cases among firefighting officials has increased to six.
According to the Fire Agency on the 6th, firefighter A, a fire suppression officer belonging to the Dalseo Fire Station in Daegu, was confirmed positive for COVID-19 yesterday afternoon and entered self-quarantine. A's wife had previously tested positive in the first test on the 3rd, and A left work early that day to undergo specimen testing and then self-quarantined.
The Songhyeon 119 Safety Center of the Dalseong Fire Station, where A works, placed all 34 employees under self-quarantine, closed the office, and conducted disinfection work. The center plans to partially resume operations from the afternoon of the 6th with support from 12 staff members from adjacent centers.
A responded to seven dispatches from the 18th of last month until before quarantine. A Fire Agency official explained, "It has been confirmed that there was no contact with ordinary citizens during fire suppression activities."

So far, a total of six firefighters have been confirmed positive. All are employees of frontline fire stations in the Daegu area. As of 9 a.m. today, 455 firefighters have been self-quarantined due to contact with confirmed or suspected patients.
