Japan to impose 2-week quarantine on arrivals from Korea and China starting from the 9th (Comprehensive)
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] On the 5th, the Japanese government announced that it will impose quarantine measures on entrants from Korea and China to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
According to Kyodo News, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe stated at the COVID-19 task force meeting that day, "We request entrants from China and Korea to wait for two weeks at locations designated by the quarantine officer and to refrain from using public transportation in Japan."
It is still unclear whether the 'waiting' mentioned by the Japanese government means 'isolation.'
The Japanese government announced that the two-week waiting measure will be applied starting from the 9th.
The Japanese government has suspended the validity of visas issued by Korea and China and limited flights from Korea and China to Narita Airport and Kansai Airport. Passenger transportation by ship is also to be suspended.
The areas subject to entry restrictions will also be expanded. Japan also announced that it will add regions to be denied entry for Korea and Iran. Previously, on the 27th of last month, Japan announced that foreigners who have stayed in Daegu and Cheongdo, Gyeongbuk within two weeks would be denied entry.
