Hyundai Motor Irregular Workers' Union: "Health Rights of All Factory Workers Must Be Guaranteed Without Discrimination"
[Asia Economy Reporter Sung Ki-ho] The Metal Workers' Union Hyundai Motor Irregular Workers' Branch has demanded that "Hyundai Motor guarantee the health rights of all workers inside the factory without discrimination" in relation to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
On the 4th, the Irregular Workers' Branch stated in a press release, "According to our own full survey, 28 subcontractors either did not provide masks related to COVID-19 or only provided cold-weather masks," making this claim.
They continued, "On the 25th of last month, Hyundai Motor labor and management secured 100,000 masks and agreed to provide KF94 masks in case of confirmed cases within the company," but "when a confirmed case occurred at the Ulsan plant on the 28th of last month, masks were not provided to subcontracted workers," they asserted.
They also pointed out, "The Ministry of Employment and Labor's workplace response guidelines for COVID-19 prevention include the intent to apply equally to workers from partner companies, dispatched workers, and service contractors working in the same factory without distinction," and criticized, "Hyundai Motor shows an attitude of leaving subcontractors to handle the response on their own."
