Kim Osu, Deputy Minister of Justice, Visits Gimcheon Juvenile Detention Center with COVID-19 Cases Confirmed
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] On the 2nd, Kim Osu, Vice Minister of Justice, visited Gyeongbuk Gimcheon Juvenile Detention Center, where a confirmed case of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) occurred, to review overall measures to prevent the spread of the virus.
On that day, Vice Minister Kim met with the warden of Gimcheon Juvenile Detention Center and received a report on the current status and measures taken regarding the confirmed COVID-19 inmate. He also inspected the management status of inmates quarantined after contact with the confirmed case.
On the 29th of last month, inmate A (60), who was incarcerated at Gyeongbuk Gimcheon Juvenile Detention Center, was diagnosed with COVID-19 and was released after a decision for suspension of detention execution. Gimcheon Juvenile Detention Center houses both juvenile offenders and general offenders. The center has quarantined 36 inmates and 29 staff members who had contact with inmate A and is conducting tests.
Vice Minister Kim inspected the quarantine status of key facilities such as the inmate living quarters and education rooms, which are communal living spaces for inmates, and directly checked the medical department responsible for inmate health and hygiene as well as the operation status of the screening clinic.
