He held a press conference in front of the "Palace of Peace" in Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi Province, saying, "As the representative of Shincheonji, I sincerely apologize to the people," and added, "Immediately after the outbreak of COVID-19, we actively cooperated with the government to prevent and overcome the spread. We will do our best not to spare any human or material support to the government."
After reading a prepared statement, Chairman Lee took questions from reporters. When a reporter asked, "Do you think you are immortal (永生不死, living forever without dying)?" he avoided answering and shouted, "Please be quiet," and "We are all saints. If this continues, it will become a chaotic scene."
