Fourth COVID-19 Case Confirmed at Samsung Gumi Plant... "Factory Operations Will Not Be Halted"
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] On the 2nd, an additional confirmed case of COVID-19 occurred at Samsung Electronics' Gumi Plant in Gyeongbuk. This brings the total number of COVID-19 confirmed cases at Samsung Electronics' Gumi Plant to four.
According to Samsung Electronics on the day, employee A from Gumi Plant 2 (Wireless Division) tested positive for COVID-19.
This is the fourth confirmed case since the first case was reported at Samsung Electronics' Gumi Plant on the 22nd of last month. The second confirmed case was reported on the 28th at Gumi Plant 1, where the Network Division is located, and the third confirmed case was reported on the 29th at Plant 2.
As a result, Samsung Electronics suspended operations of the smartphone production line from the 22nd to the 24th of last month and again from the 29th of last month to the 1st of this month.
Samsung Electronics has decided not to further suspend factory operations, considering that the entire plant was closed and disinfected after the third confirmed case, and that the fourth confirmed case is an office worker, not a production line employee.
A Samsung Electronics official stated, "Only the floor where the employee worked will be closed until the 3rd, and factory operations will not be suspended."
