Mapo-gu Installs Two Screening Clinics at Seogang University and Hongik University
To Prevent Community Infection from Incoming Chinese Students... From Consultation to Sample Collection, Strengthening COVID-19 Response in Mapo-gu in Cooperation with Medical Association Starting Early March
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun) is making every effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the local community by cooperating with the Mapo-gu Medical Association to establish and operate screening clinics at two locations: Sogang University and Hongik University.
Since January 23, the district has been operating a screening clinic in front of the Mapo-gu Public Health Center to proactively respond to COVID-19, working on the front lines of quarantine to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.
Recently, as the infectious disease crisis alert level was raised to "Severe" due to the spread of COVID-19 in the local community, the number of visitors to the screening clinics has surged, making their role even more important.
However, with the COVID-19 emergency situation continuing for over a month, the public health center medical staff are experiencing difficulties such as accumulated fatigue due to manpower shortages, making support from private medical personnel urgently needed.
Upon hearing about the difficult situation of the screening clinic medical staff, the Mapo-gu Medical Association (President Park Seon-jun) expressed their willingness to cooperate, stating, "We will contribute to preventing the spread of COVID-19 by recruiting volunteers from our approximately 250 members to work at the screening clinics."
The medical personnel volunteered by the Mapo-gu Medical Association are scheduled to participate in on-duty shifts at the public health center screening clinics starting in early March to support rapid testing at the clinics.
In addition, ahead of the university semester opening in the area, the district plans to additionally establish screening clinics at Sogang University and Hongik University?the first such installations among Seoul's autonomous districts?to ensure thorough management of Chinese international students, with operations starting from the 3rd.
This additional establishment of screening clinics is a proactive measure by the district to enable rapid COVID-19 testing and block community transmission.
