Gangdong-gu Government Building Transformed into Open Art Museum... Over 210 Contemporary Artworks on Display
'Sometimes an Art Museum; Taking a Short Break' Theme Opens March 2... Creating a Space for Rest and Healing to Comfort Naebang Residents Weary from COVID-19
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) is exhibiting artworks at the main building of the district office starting from the 2nd under the theme "Sometimes a Museum; Taking a Short Break."
The district planned this exhibition to offer some comfort to residents deprived of outdoor activities and cultural and artistic enjoyment opportunities due to COVID-19, and to provide a brief time of rest and healing for busy employees working on emergency duty.
The main theme of the exhibition is "Rest and Healing." Each floor of the district office is redesigned with different themes: the 2nd floor is "People and People," the 3rd floor is "Nature," the 4th floor is "Time," and the 5th floor is "Relationships and Communication," transforming the previously dull corridors into creative spaces with stories, adding interest.
The exhibition runs from March 2nd until the end of the year, showcasing over 210 works by renowned artists actively working in the contemporary Korean art scene, including Kim Myung-sik, Shin Cheol, and Lee Jin-hyu.
The themes will change according to the seasons to present new works, and docent (artwork explanation programs) and conversations with artists together with residents are also being prepared.
Lee Jeong-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, said, "I am very pleased that the once rough district office corridors have become an open museum. Through the 'Sometimes a Museum; Taking a Short Break' exhibition, I hope it will provide a moment of rest and healing for our visitors exhausted by COVID-19 and for our hardworking staff."
The Gangdong-gu Open Museum is open on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
