Minsaengdang: "Public Discussion Needed on Postponing General Election... Should Not Weigh Pros and Cons"
"Let's Propose Drastic Measures Starting from the Political Sphere"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] On the 1st, the Minsheng Party stated regarding the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) situation, "The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases has exceeded 3,000, and it is a serious situation where the number could soon surge to around 10,000," and emphasized that "public discussion on postponing the general election is necessary."
Son Dong-ho, spokesperson for the Minsheng Party, said in a commentary on the same day, "The number of suspected cases has reached about 30,000, many citizens are losing their lives, and severe patients are emerging one after another," and urged, "The political sphere must come up with drastic measures."
Spokesperson Son pointed out, "Fear and anxiety have become a daily reality for the entire nation," and questioned, "Can we appeal to the people for votes while listening to the groans of countless citizens fighting against the disease?"
Son also criticized, "President Moon Jae-in expressed a negative opinion about the postponement of the general election proposed by Minsheng Party leader Yoo Seong-yeop during a meeting with party leaders at the National Assembly," and added, "But how can we trust the president's judgment that the COVID-19 situation will 'soon come to an end'?"
