Iran Advises Its Citizens to Refrain from Traveling to Korea
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] On the 29th of last month (local time), the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs advised its citizens to refrain from traveling to Korea to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, "Iranian citizens should strongly avoid traveling to Korea, where many COVID-19 cases have been confirmed," and advised, "Iranians arriving from Korea must take appropriate preventive measures according to the Ministry of Health's guidelines for two weeks."
It added, "If Iranians staying in Korea are unable to leave, they should avoid crowded places and strictly follow the personal hygiene rules instructed by Korean health authorities," and further noted, "If the situation worsens, they should prepare to leave Korea."
Since there are no direct flights connecting Iran and Korea, no flight restrictions have been imposed.
Earlier, on January 28th, the Iranian government designated China as a country to avoid traveling to due to the spread of COVID-19 and advised against visiting areas with concentrated outbreaks.
Additionally, Iran suspended all flights to China starting from the 1st of last month and announced a ban on Chinese nationals entering the country on the 27th.

As of the 29th, Iran reported 593 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 43 deaths, leading to the cancellation of schools, Friday prayers, various sports events, and shortened working hours at government offices, with heightened emergency precautions in place.
