On the 27th, Governor Lee stated on Facebook, "We will accommodate negative pressure rooms for severe patients (if requested from Daegu and Gyeongbuk) without hesitation," adding, "However, the large-scale group accommodation of mild patients requested by Kwon Young-jin, Mayor of Daegu, yesterday is difficult, so we need to come up with an alternative," providing a more specific comment than the previous day.
He also said, "Several severe COVID-19 patients from the Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions are already in negative pressure rooms in Gyeonggi Province, and as long as there is capacity in negative pressure rooms, we will continue to accept severe patients," adding, "Gyeonggi Province is not so heartless as to refuse to accommodate severe COVID-19 patients in safe negative pressure rooms."
In particular, he pointed out, "What Mayor Kwon Young-jin of Daegu requested from Gyeonggi Province was to completely vacate Gyeonggi Provincial Medical Center or Seongnam Medical Center to accommodate hundreds of mild COVID-19 confirmed patients," and added, "This mass transfer of mild infected patients to a remote location is inappropriate from a medical perspective aimed at preventing the spread, and if a large number of confirmed patients from other regions are accommodated in urban medical centers, it would be impossible to handle the residents' backlash, potentially causing greater confusion and risk."
