On the morning of the 25th, the two preliminary candidates held a press conference at the main gate of the Busan City Council and announced that they had agreed to unify under preliminary candidate Kim Yong-won through a bilateral agreement.
Candidate Park stated, “On the 21st, Jung and Yeongdo Districts were announced as a three-person primary election area,” adding, “There was no mention of the excessive inquiry incident involving party members by other candidates. The primary election is being held without a thorough investigation of the allegations of wrongdoing and without severe punishment for those involved.”
She continued, “There were strong concerns that if the three-person primary proceeds, a candidate who committed illegal acts might become our Democratic Party’s candidate,” and said, “After much deliberation, preliminary candidates Park Young-mi and Kim Yong-won agreed to unify their candidacies to restore the fallen justice.”
