[Asia Economy Reporters Choi Daeyeol and Jo Hyun-ui] Health authorities conducted diagnostic tests for the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) on approximately 500 pneumonia patients in the Daegu area, and as of the morning of the 25th, 5 tested positive.
Kim Kang-lip, the 1st Chief Coordinator of the COVID-19 Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, stated at a briefing that "Out of 514 pneumonia patients in Daegu who underwent diagnostic testing since the 21st, 482 tested negative and 5 tested positive." The test results for the remaining 27 patients are currently pending. COVID-19 diagnostic tests take about 6 hours from specimen collection to result.
In Daegu, after the first confirmed case emerged among the Shincheonji Daegu Church members, the number of patients has rapidly increased. The government is conducting diagnostic tests focusing on Shincheonji members and has decided to test all individuals with cold symptoms such as fever and cough for the next two weeks to prevent further spread.
Coordinator Kim said, "Through intensive diagnostic testing over two weeks, we plan to actively identify any possible infected individuals and proceed with isolation and treatment," adding, "Considering the 2 to 3 weeks required for their treatment, we will make every effort to stabilize the situation in Daegu within about four weeks from now."
